Kaipara home to the most dependent population

80% of growth in population will be more people aged 65 plus. By 2030 the population in Kaipara will increase by 10% or 2,355 people. The largest contribution to this growth will be in the older age groups with 80% of the growth in those aged 65 years plus.

20% of the growth in population will be those aged 19 years and below. Those aged under 19 years of age will contribute almost the 20% to the overall population growth. This makes Kaipara, an area with a high dependency rate. Only 5 more people will be in the traditional working-age group from 20 to 64.

Māori population to increase by 12.9%. The Màori population will be 6,178 up from 5,472 in 2023 and accounting for 29% of the total population increase. While the tamariki population will remain about the same, the aging population (aged over 65) will account for almost 60% of the increase. Pàkeha and those not Pacificia, Màori or Asian will increase from 22,650 to 23,340 people - 58% of the total population increase.
